Informational Meeting for Prospective Boys Lacrosse Team to be Held February 1
From The Caroline Progress

The organizer of a youth lacrosse team for middle school-aged boys in Caroline County will hold an informational meeting for prospective players and parents Feb. 1.

The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the media center of Caroline Middle School and should last no more than hour. The boys and their parents will have an opportunity to meet the organizer and coach, learn about lacrosse, view the equipment, watch a brief introductory video, and more.

The team would be similar to a nonprofit youth sports organization. Players would have to purchase their own personal equipment and pay a registration fee to participate. The organization would purchase the personal equipment at discounted team prices in order to keep costs low. The registration fee would be used to pay for uniforms, officials for home games, and team equipment and supplies. Precise information about equipment costs and registration fees will be distributed at the meeting.

The team would play a schedule of about 12 games, including home and way, against other teams in Hanover and other nearby localities. The location of practice and home games and the practice schedule have not been determined.

The organizer's initial goal is to recruit enough boys - about 25 - to field one team. The team will be open to any boys in grades 6-8.

The team will not be affiliated with Caroline Middle School or Caroline County Public Schools, although school officials have been supportive. The team is being organized and would be coached by Tim Cox, editor of The Caroline Progress. Cox helped launch the Hanover County Lacrosse Club in 2002 and served as a coach and on the club's board of directors a number of years thereafter.
